# Contacts

> View and manage customer contacts collected through chat conversations.

InboxMate can collect and store contact information from chat conversations. The contacts feature is available on Pro and Business plans.

## How contacts are collected

When a visitor provides their name, email, or other details during a chat, InboxMate captures this information and creates a contact record. You can also configure the widget to proactively request email addresses after a set number of messages.

### Contacts from email

Email senders are **not** turned into contacts automatically. A contact is created from an email only when the matching category's action chain includes the **Kontakt anlegen** action — it finds or creates the contact by email address, links it to the conversation, and lets the AI auto-fill the name and role. This way you choose which kinds of senders become contacts: include the action on *Kundenanfrage*, leave it off *Spam* / *Newsletter*.

See [Kontakt anlegen](/user-guide/inbox/categorizers#kontakt-anlegen-add-the-sender-as-a-contact) for how to add it to a categorizer.

## Contact details

Each contact record includes:

* Name
* Email address
* Conversation history
* First and last seen timestamps

## Privacy and compliance

On plans with advanced compliance mode (EU) enabled, contact data handling follows stricter rules:

* Data hosted in Frankfurt, AI processing in Sweden — everything stays in the EU
* Data retention controls
* Export and deletion capabilities

See [workspace settings](/user-guide/workspace/settings) for compliance configuration.
